Nine children are among 19 to have been killed in an apartment fire in New York City, in what the city’s fire commissioner called one of the worst in recent memory. Senior adviser to mayor Eric Adams, Stefan Ringel, confirmed the death toll while a city official, who was not authorised to speak publicly, revealed the number of children dead. More than 60 people have been injured and 13 are still in critical condition in the hospital, Ringel added. The majority of victims were suffering from severe smoke inhalation, FDNY Commissioner, Daniel Nigro, said at a press conference earlier that afternoon. • Subscribe to ITV News on YouTube: http://bit.ly/2lOHmNj • Get breaking news and more stories at http://www.itv.com/news Follow ITV News on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/itvnews/ Follow ITV News on Twitter: https://twitter.com/itvnews Follow ITV News on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/itvnews/
