Tens of thousands of people have protested in France after President Emmanuel Macron forced through controversial pension reforms.  Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne invoked article 49:3, a constitutional power that meant a vote on the move was not needed, avoiding a possible government defeat.  Protests unfolded on the streets of Paris and inside the National Assembly building as the government pushed through the rise in retirement age.
