Russian forces retreat from Lyman, Ukraine after Vladimir Putin claimed to have annexed region

Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense has shared footage showing its soldiers reclaiming Lyman a day after Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed the area as part of his nation. Footage shows the 81st Airborne Brigade of Ukraine armed forces praying before combat, likely in the Lyman direction. The city is in the Donetsk region, which is one of those claimed in Russia’s sham referenda held at the end of September. Elsewhere, clips show Ukrainian soldiers raising the Ukraine national flag or removing Russian ones. After being encircled by Ukrainian forces, Russia pulled troops out on Saturday from Lyman, which it had been using as a frontline hub. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his military have vowed to keep fighting to liberate the other regions.
