Rwanda migrant flight GROUNDED minutes before take-off, govt vows prep underway for next flight
The government has vowed preparations are underway for the next flight to take migrants from the UK to Rwanda. Fury was triggered on Tuesday night after European human rights judges grounded the migrant flight only minutes before take-off. Lawyers succeeded in having seven migrants hauled off the jet, which was waiting on the runway after the European Court of Human Rights got an injunction over the removals. Derided by opponents, charities and religious leaders as "shameful", the British government's plan had already faced a series of legal challenges. At least 30 would-be passengers had, in recent days, successfully argued that they should not be deported on health or human rights grounds - leaving just a handful on board. The plane's engines had started and cabin crew boarded on Tuesday evening when the ECHR granted injunctions to prevent the deportation of one of the remaining men. That triggered a series of legal challenges that stopped the flight from departing. Yet the government says although this was disappointing they are busy preparing the next flight.
