Ukrainian soldiers secure Lyman as Russians forced to retreat
Russian forces retreated from the strategically important Donetsk town of Lyman on Saturday, October 1, to avoid encirclement by Ukrainian forces, the Kremlin said. Footage showing a large group of Ukrainian troops in front of Lyman’s main government building was released by Ukraine’s defense ministry. The military defeat for Russia comes one day after President Vladimir Putin announced the illegal annexation of Donetsk and three other Ukrainian oblasts.
