What prompted the police probe into 'parties' at Downing Street?

The Met Police had been reluctant to investigate alleged parties at No 10 because they were reported many months after supposedly taking place. But that has now changed. Commissioner Cressida Dick said the investigation had been opened as a result of new information from the Cabinet Office. The inquiry will look into whether rules were breached at a number of events in and around Downing Street in a move that will keep the spotlight on the Prime Minister and the culture in Westminster during the pandemic.
