White House says Facebook whistleblower’s remarks show ‘self-regulation’ not working

White House press secretary Jen Psaki targeted Facebook on Monday, commenting the revelations coming from Frances Haugen, a former employee of the social media to CBS’s programme 60 minutes. Psaki argued the efforts of the tech sector to “self-regulate” are “not working”, adding that “this is just the latest in a series of revelations about social media platforms”. The press secretary clarified that the administration wants to see greater federal oversight over tech companies, and that the revelation “validate the significant concern that the president and lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have expressed” on social media’s power.
