Flash floods have hit the UK after the driest summer in 50 years, and an official drought in England. Heavy rain is flooding homes and businesses causing power cuts, and transport chaos. University of Reading's Meteorologist Dr Rob Thompson explains the science behind flash floods after a drought. Households should pack up their valuables and prepare for floods, the Met Office has said, with three million homes at risk of flooding. In Devon and Cornwall, floods began on Monday afternoon as thunderstorms brought hail and almost three inches of rain in some places, with the weather service warning of danger to life from flash floods.
