It was Europa League heartbreak for Celtic in Germany as Bayer Leverkusen mounted a late comeback to win Group G.
The Hoops went in knowing they were likely to need something to set up a final-day shootout with Real Betis.
But they could barely have got off to a worse start with Robert Andrich heading in from a poorly defender Florian Wirtz corner.
Ange Postecoglou's team didn't take it lying down however and were gifted a route back into the game when Lukas Hradecky wiped out Kyogo in the box and Josip Juranovic dinked a wonderful penalty in to level things up.
Celtic flew out of the traps in the second half and were dreaming of an unlikely win when Jota struck to put them in front.
But the Germans gathered themselves for a late push and equalised through Andrich with ten minutes to go.
A point would have taken things to the final day for Celtic even with Betis beating Ferencvaros.
But a spectacular finish from Moussa Diaby broke the hearts of travelling fans and it means the Hoops will have to make do with a Conference League place.
