BORIS Johnson made an announcement today (November 30) on the new measures the government will be introducing to tackle the Omicron variant.

The Prime Minister spoke this afternoon about rolling out millions more booster jabs to help fight the virus.

Moments before the press conference it was announced there are now 22 confirmed cases of the Omicron strain of the virus in the UK.

Health secretary Sajid Javid unveiled new restrictions in an announcement over the weekend, with countries on the UK's travel "red list" and new mask mandates.

What did Boris Johnson announce on Tuesday, November 30?

The Prime Minister set a target of getting everyone a booster jab by the end of January 2022.

After the JVCI recommended boosters should be offered to everyone over 18 the government have explained how the process will work.

The NHS will invite you when you become eligible with the older and more vulnerable being given the booster first.

You will be able to have your booster three months after the second dose of your initial vaccination.

"It's time for another Great British vaccination effort, we've done it before and we are going to do it again, let's not give this virus a second chance," the Prime Minister said.

Mr Javid issued an update on the latest Covid measures yesterday afternoon (November 29).

The Health Secretary told MPs in the House of Commons that he expects cases to rise in the coming days and weeks.

He said: "Our strategy is to buy ourselves time and strengthen our defences while our world's leading scientists learn more about this potential threat."

Health Secretary Sajid Javid vowed the NHS booster programme is being put "on steroids" in his speech on November 29.

But frustrated Brits aged 18 or over who would now be eligible were left confused after being unable to book a vaccine appointment yesterday.

The announcement sparked a scramble on the NHS vaccine booking website, with thousands of people waiting in online queues to secure a slot.

The Health Secretary also confirmed that if this variant is not as concerning as first feared, restrictions on masks and travel will once again be eased.

He said: "If it emerges that this variant is no more dangerous than the Delta variant, then we won’t keep these measures in place for a day longer than necessary."
