Newcastle next manager - Favre favourite in latest odds after heavy backing

LUCIEN FAVRE is the new favourite to become the next manager of Newcastle.

That's according to bookmakers Sky Bet, who've installed the 63-year-old at 5/2 after a flurry of bets on Sunday evening.

It looks a matter of WHEN and not IF a managerial change will be made at St James' Park following their £305million takeover.

A huge re-structuring of the club is on the horizon and Bruce could well be the first casualty.

He's priced at 1/16 to be the next Premier League manager sacked ahead of showdown talks with the new owners later this week.

The Telegraph claim Bruce is due around £8m in compensation and that non-executive chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan will make the decision on his replacement.

Graeme Jones looks set to be placed in temporary charge until a full-time replacement is found.

And favourite for the role on a permanent basis is Favre, who has replaced Antonio Conte at the top of the market.

The Swiss coach remains a free agent having been sacked by Borussia Dortmund in December 2020.

He delivered the German Super Cup in the previous season and left with a 61 per cent win rate in his 110 matches in charge.

Conte has drifted from 3/1 to 5/1 but remains second-favourite with bookmakers Sky Bet.

Roberto Martinez and Steven Gerrard are locked together at 7s with Brighton's Graham Potter a fraction behind at 8/1.

Eddie Howe (9/1) is the last at single-figure prices with Brendan Rodgers and Zinedine Zidane offered at 12/1 and 14/1 respectively.
