West Ham hopeful over Nayef Aguerd's injury picked up in Morocco's Spain win

West Ham United first-team coach Mark Warburton has provided an injury update on Hammers defender Nayef Aguerd following an injury sustained during the World Cup.

Moroccan international Aguerd has been a key player for his country at this year's World Cup despite missing almost the whole season so far for West Ham with an ankle injury, starting all four of their matches in their shock run to the World Cup quarter-finals.

After helping his side to win a Group F that included Belgium, Croatia and Canada to become only the fourth African team to get this far in a World Cup, Aguerd started and played for 84 minutes during their round of 16 win over Spain on Tuesday.

Despite his impressive form at the tournament, Aguerd was forced off six minutes before the end of normal time due to injury, with his injury coming at the same time as West Ham's players were travelling to Cambridge United for their mid-season friendly, a game that David Moyes' side won 4-2.

However, despite concerns over Aguerd's condition, Hammers coach Warburton has provided an update on him, with the club's medical team hoping that the £30million summer signing is not too seriously injured.

"He came off tonight, we all saw him on the coach rubbing his groin," said Warburton.

"He's made contact with the medical team and he didn't appear too concerned so fingers crossed it is not too bad."

Aguerd has played 354 minutes out of a possible 390 in Morocco's World Cup campaign so far, with the only goal they have conceded being the own goal he scored during the 2-1 win over Canada last Thursday.
