Yes, Obviously Marvel Erased Two Spider-Men From The ‘No Way Home’ Trailer

Yesterday brought the premiere of the a new trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home, which fans have been clamoring to see for weeks. What cameos would be shown? What would be left out? Last night, we had our answer.

This time around, Spider-Man: No Way Home was comfortable showing its own multiverse-assembled version of the Sinister Six, Doctor Octopus, Green Goblin, Lizard, Electro and Sandman. Well, that’s five, but close enough, and who knows who else might show up, like an actual villain from the “normal” MCU Spider-Man universe.

But the film held back further cameos (potential spoilers follow), and clearly went to great lengths to act like Tom Holland is the only Peter Parker in this film. The worst kept secret in the industry right now is that yes, given that the movie is pulling villains from the past two non-MCU eras of Spider-Man, they are also pulling in those literal Spider-Men with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield returning.

In the case of this trailer, it’s extremely obvious that the Spider-Men in question were digitally erased in order to keep their appearance on the down-low. Take the lead image above for instance, which shows three villains facing off against just one Spider-Man, even though Electro and Lizard are clearly facing blank spaces meant to be occupied by figures.

That version of the trailer included a scene that was cut elsewhere that literally shows Lizard getting socked in the face by someone invisible, a presumably erased Spider-Man.

There is zero question at this point the other two actors are in the film as multiverse Peters. But I absolutely understand Marvel not wanting to show them in the trailer, as obviously the first appearance of both of them will be a huge “pop” moment in theaters, even if everyone is 99% sure it’s coming at this point. And I use “everyone” loosely there, as surprise, there exists a large portion of the moviegoing public who is not tracking every leak on social media or in articles like this who will be totally floored when it happens.

The only other cameo we know is being hidden is Netflix’s Matt Murdoch, played by Charlie Cox, acting as Peter’s lawyer. Although as of last night, with the end of the trailer featuring Doctor Strange saying “something is coming through” in regard to the multiverse tears, there are new theories about even more cameos yet to be discovered, including some Miles Morales theorizing. Though that’s a topic for a different day.
