Boris Johnson dodges question over new Downing Street party claim

Boris Johnson has dodged a question on whether he attended a party in Downing Street on May 20 2020, as pressure grows on the Prime Minister over allegations of lockdown busting parties across Whitehall. Last week Mr Johnson’s former senior adviser Dominic Cummings claimed in a blogpost that an investigation into a series of alleged Downing Street parties being conducted by senior civil servant Sue Gray should be broadened to include ‘Socially Distanced Drinks’ on Wednesday 20 May 2020. The allegation comes on top of claims Mr Johnson and his wife Carrie attended a “cheese and wine gathering” along with senior aides in the garden of No10 five days earlier. Sir Keir Starmer said Boris Johnson would have “serious questions to answer” if found to have attended a lockdown-breaking party. The Labour leader also weighed in on the Novak Djokovic situtation, saying that just because he is an elite sportsman , he should not be treated any differently.
