Israel ‘strikes targets inside Iran’

Israel is reported to have conducted airstrikes inside Iran early this morning, hitting targets in several cities. The attacks are yet to be confirmed by Israel or the US, but Iranian air defences were said to have opened fire over the cities of Isfahan and Tabriz. ABC News, citing anonymous US officials, first reported Israel hitting sites inside the Islamic Republic. There was no initial confirmation that locations in Syria and Iraq had also been struck. An Iranian official denied to Reuters that there had been any attack, insisting that the explosion heard in the city of Isfahan came after the activation of air defence systems. He did not explain why the air defences would be activated, or cause explosions, in the absence of an attack. The spokesman for Iran’s space agency said there were no missile strikes inside the country, but air defences had shot down some several quadcopter drones. “A failed attack, with a few quadcopters,” he wrote on Twitter/X.
