Alex Scott's TV jobs, rumoured boyfriend and struggles with trolls and alcohol
Alex Scott MBE is the former England and Arsenal footballer who has become one of the most recognised faces on British TV over the past year or two.
The 37-year-old Londoner is of Jamaican descent and found out she has a Jewish background on the BBC's Who Do You Think You Are ancestry programme. Her mother is northern Irish, English and of Lithuanian-Jewish heritage, whilst her father is Jamaican.
Alex made 140 appearances for the England national team in football and represented Great Britain in the 2012 summer Olympics. She played with various football clubs from Arsenal, where she scored the winning goal for the 2007 UEFA Women's Cup Final, and Birmingham City to the Boston Breakers in America's professional soccer league for women, until her retirement in 2017.
What is Alex Scott doing now?
Alex is now a well known TV presenter on the BBC, fronting events such as the Olympic Games and BBC show Football Focus. She has also been a regular presenter on The One show.
She hosted the 2018 FIFA World Cup and 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup on BBC and has been a big part of this summer's Euro 2022 coverage.
She previously appeared on Strictly Come Dancing in 2019, finishing fifth.
She was awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) for her services to football.
After retiring from international football in 2017, having represented Team GB at the home Olympics in 2012 and making more than 100 appearances for the England women's football team, Alex received the award in the 2017 New Years Honours List.
After being named as BBC's first female pundit at the World Cup 2018, Alex Scott said she faced online abuse from trolls which only intensified when she joined the Sky Sports Super Sunday team.
Speaking to the Mail's Weekend magazine, Alex said: "I was drinking most nights. I would easily go through bottles to try and switch off.
"It was the only thing that could help me sleep or numb everything that was going on around me... it was the death threats, the abuse, all of that."
She continued: "I found myself pulling away from everyone around me, not wanting to talk to anyone."
Alex said turning to booze was "unlike her" and she underwent therapy to help her deal with trolling issues.
Earlier this year, Scott described herself as single during an appearance on The One show. It isn’t known whether she is currently dating anyone, as she keeps her private life under wraps.
The TV pundit was previously romantically linked to Corrie star Sam Robertson after the pair were spotted enjoying a romantic meal together in London last year.
