Burnley vs Hull live: Kompany verdict as familiar feeling haunts Clarets in draw

If it wasn't clear before, the puzzle Vincent Kompany and Burnley must solve was set out for all to see at Turf Moor on Tuesday.

It was a familiar pattern as Burnley dominated possession but couldn't fashion the goals required to win the contest. Hull were prepared to sit in a shape, not even implementing a press, and asking the hosts to unlock the door, particularly after being gifted an opener.

The Clarets are not making teams do enough to score against them while at the other end they can't fashion enough clear chances and don't take a high enough percentage of the ones that do come their way.

Kompany and Co must find a way of overcoming a low to mid block, and ensuring they defend adequately enough to prevent counter attack strikes. Hull, who looked a threat on the break on several occasions, took the lead when a long ball was flicked on and Ozan Tufan raced clear and slotted past Aro Muric. It was the Tigers' only shot on target in the first half and there was a sense of deja-vu spreading around the ground.

But, to their credit, Burnley responded and a move of real quality yielded a leveller. Josh Cullen stretched and split the defence with a lovely ball inside the full back for the rampaging Ian Maatsen to slide a perfectly weighted low cross for Jay Rodriguez to slot in.

Burnley upped the ante after the break, camping in the Hull half, with Josh Brownhill lashing wide from an angle when he should have hit the target before Rodriguez couldn't find the power required from six yards to finish off another flowing move.

Manuel Benson and Nathan Tella were summoned from the bench to provide fresh legs and both had their moments against a tiring Hull defence but the Clarets passed and passed and didn't profit.
