Ian Wright Was Blown Away Watching Katie McCabe In Person

Republic of Ireland captain Katie McCabe has been lighting up the WSL this season and Ian Wright has admitted he's a big fan.

The former Arsenal striker was in the stands at Meadow Park in Borehamwood, where Arsenal women play their home games.

"I was there, and it was a pleasure to be there," Wright said on his podcast Wrighty's House. "What a beautiful atmosphere to watch a football match in."

Arsenal's 3-0 win over Everton sees them sit top of the WSL table after five games. McCabe was on form yet again with another sensational strike.

Podcast cohost Ryan Hunn began talking about Vivianne Miedema but Wright had to have his say on Katie McCabe's brilliance, and who he reminds him of.

"Honestly, Katie McCabe bro, she's just like to watch here, the thing is the second half, she's right down our side," Wright said.

You know who she reminds me of? As a player? She's just like Stuart Pearce. She does a Stuart Pearce run, she was just steamrolling, no shit, gets on with it. Gets clattered into, gets up and gets on with it.

Wright played with Pearce, nicknamed 'Psycho', in England teams over the course of the 1990s. They have most recently featured together on Sky as pundits.

McCabe was named player of the match, with Vera Pauw likely hoping her excellent run of form carries over into their opening European qualifier with Sweden next week.

The hosts then talked a bit more about McCabe's goal and Sandy MacIver's performance in the Everton goal, who they felt was hard done by in the game.

"Sandy MacIver made some unbelievable saves in that game," host Ryan Hunn said. "Even for Katie McCabe's goal, I was watching it again."

"If you actually look at when Katie McCabe hit it and the trajectory of it, the sun is right over directly behind Katie McCabe's head, and as the ball goes up you can just see that McIver has lost the ball."

They then went on to talk about Nikita Parris and her struggles, as well as some of the other standout efforts from the likes of Kim Little.

Wright gave more credit to the experience of being a fan at Meadow Park, saying, "When the ball is being hit, you can hear it, you can hear the thud."

Arsenal are back in WSL action against West Ham on November 6th, with outings in the Champions League and FA Cup beforehand.
