Nick Cannon has called model Alyssa Scott the 'strongest woman' after the tragic death of their five-month-old son Zen.

On Tuesday, the actor and musician told viewers on The Nick Cannon Show that his baby died from a brain tumour.

Zen's health got worse during the Thanksgiving period, with the star explaining how his brain tumour grew at a rapid pace.

During the segment, he called Zen's mother the 'strongest woman I've ever seen' as he recalled what they had to go through with their baby.

"Zen's mom, Alyssa, was just the strongest woman I've ever seen," he said.

"Never had an argument, never was angry. Was emotional when she needed to be, but always the best mom, and continues to be the best mom."

Nick had explained that the two had taken Zen to the doctors when he was just two months old after noticing his head seemed bigger than normal.

The little one also developed a cough and had breathing problems.

"We didn’t think anything of it," Nick told the audience. "But I wanted to take him to the doctor for his sinus and breathing. We thought it would be routine."

It was discovered that there was fluid building up in Zen's head as well as a malignant tumour that needed surgery.

Zen had brain surgery as well as a shunt to drain the fluid from his head.

During his show on Wednesday, Nick had thanked fans and viewers for their support during the family's difficult time.

"I respect his mother Alyssa and everyone in our family," he said.

"Yesterday, the onslaught of love and care is brand new to me so I'm dealing with this and thank you. That's all I can really say.

"Of course, everyone knows I'm not fine, but you all are making me feel better," he explained

He went on to say that the amount of love and support he received was unexpected.

"I didn't expect it from all over the world and I can't thank you guys enough," Nick added. "... I say thank you from Alyssa, Zen's mum, and the rest of our family."

A lot of people had asked Nick how Alyssa has been doing, to which he said she has been taking it 'five minutes at a time'.
