Rhea Ripley Vacates Women's World Championship On WWE Raw
Rhea Ripley’s reign as Women’s World Champion has come to a devastating end.
Hours before the April 15th episode of WWE Raw went on the air, news broke that Rhea Ripley had suffered a serious injury and could be forced to vacate the title. Unfortunately, this report was true.
Making her entrance with her right arm in a sling, Ripley made the announcement that she would be sidelined for “a few months” due to injury and had to relinquish the title as a result. The Montreal crowd chanted “bullsh*t” at the news, to which Ripley agreed.
On the Raw after Mania, The Eradicator was attacked backstage by Liv Morgan. Ripley went on to reference Morgan’s “revenge tour” and called her a coward for blindsiding her. Issuing a warning, Ripley stated that when she is coming back it will be blood, adding that if she finds Morgan then she will need to be locked up in Montreal jail. Morgan then interrupted but was held back by security.
Later that night, Ripley was seen backstage with the rest of The Judgment Day. The group embraced and wished Ripley well as she began her road to recovery.
Further information on the injury has been provided by Bryan Alvarez, who stated that the injury was a sprained AC joint and Ripley could be out for up to 5 months:
Ripley won the Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 39 by defeating Charlotte Flair. The Eradicator was also one of the few champions to successfully retain her title at WrestleMania 40, defeating Becky Lynch in the opening match of the weekend. Ripley’s reign lasted 380 days.
Later in the night, new WWE Tag Team Championship designs were unveiled.
Who Will Be The Next Women’s World Champion Following Rhea Ripley’s Announcement?
It was later confirmed that a new Women’s World Champion will be crowned on the April 22nd episode of Raw. At the time of writing, no details have been provided in regard to who will compete for the vacant title on the upcoming show.
