Who is Kelly Smith as Alex Scott details how she fell in love with ex-Lioness

Alex Scott has opened up about her romance with fellow footballer Kelly Smith, revealing that she fell "madly and deeply in love" with her former teammate.

Alex, 37, has revealed details about her relationship with former Lioness Kelly, 43, in her new book, How (Not) To Be Strong, which is set to be released on 29 September.

At a recent launch party in London, Alex spoke about her new memoir and explained that she almost hadn’t included the chapter about her and Kelly's relationship, but she felt it would have been “cheating” to leave it out, reports the Mirror.

She explained: “I thought I’d be cheating you all if I didn’t put that in there. And for me, it’s like that first love story, I fell madly and deeply in love.

"And yes, there’s that heartbreak and those things, but it’s a huge part of my life and I wouldn’t go back and change that. Because that feeling of love and that excitement and what it gives you, it needed to be in there.”

Kelly began her professional career on the pitch in 1996 with Wembley Ladies, before moving to Arsenal just two years later.

She headed off to America in 1999 and went on to play for the New Jersey Lady Stallions, Philadelphia Charge and New Jersey Wildcats during her eight-year stint in the US. However, in 2012 Kelly returned to Arsenal and stayed with the club for five years.

Away from the pitch, Kelly is now a devoted mum-of-two and is married to management consultant DeAnna Dobosz.

She and DeAnne met in 2013 while they were both holidaying in Egypt, with the pair describing it as "love at first sight".

After six months, DeAnna moved from Edinburgh to Watford, where Kelly was living, and in June 2016 they tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in Hampstead Heath.

In May 2017, the former footballer gave birth to the couple's first child via IVF donor, shortly after she retired. She and DeAnna welcomed a baby boy named Rocco Jude, and two years later they welcomed a daughter named Lucia.

The couple previously spoke to OK! about their romance and parenting, with DeAnna explaining: "Kelly’s the caretaker, she looks after the children and makes sure we have the staples in the house, and I provide the entertainment and I’m quite bossy.

"But we’re a good balance. We’ve learnt to work together. In the pandemic, I was working really hard from home. So Kelly, in the whole first lockdown, had both kids in the house on her own. We had to find a rhythm in that. And it was hard."
