LIVE: MPs hold full debate on sleaze U-turn
A Conservative MP on Monday night forced further humiliation of the Government over sleaze by forcing another parliamentary vote on standards reform. Christopher Chope, the MP for Christchurch, shouted “object” to a late-night vote. His objection means a full debate and division on the Government’s U-turn on reform to the standards process will be held in Parliament in the coming days. The Government is expected to win the vote but will face scrutiny from opposition MPs on its decision to abandon plans to introduce an appeals process for parliamentarians accused of breaking sleaze rules.
