Humza Yousaf said he was “not ruling out” a Holyrood election as he fought for his political future after axing a coalition with the Scottish Green Party that was propping up his government The first minister denied intending to quit after his gamble to scrap the coalition deal created a huge backlash from Green MSPs. However, five separate sources have told The Times he was persuaded to fight for his job by his wife, Nadia El-Nakla, and senior colleagues, including Stephen Flynn, the party leader at Westminster. Yousaf now faces two crucial votes which could end his premiership — on his leadership and on his government — after the Labour Party followed in the footsteps of the Conservatives by tabling a motion of no confidence.
