Alister Jack says government 'respects' devolution as it blocks Scottish gender reform bill

The Scottish secretary told MPs that he has issued a section 35 order to stop the Scottish gender recognition reform bill getting royal assent. Alister Jack acknowledged it was a 'significant decision' from Westminster to use section 35 of the Scotland Act, but insisted it is not an attack on devolution. He said he hopes the UK and Scottish governments can work together on a new bill.
