UK Covid-19: Not the time for coronavirus 'Plan B' says Kwasi Kwarteng

Britain must immediately enforce a 'Plan B' which would bring back mandatory face masks and more working from home in order to avoid a 'winter crisis' amid rising Covid cases, a senior NHS boss has warned. Matthew Taylor, chief executive of the NHS Confederation which represents NHS trusts, urged the Government to implement the back-up strategy amid rising Covid cases. Mr Taylor said the NHS is preparing for what could be 'the most challenging winter on record' and risks 'stumbling into a crisis' after a continued rise on coronavirus cases over the past week amid fears the booster jab rollout is going too slowly. But Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng today said the Government does not 'feel that it's the time for Plan B right now', echoing No10's official stance yesterday. Mr Kwarteng said he would continue to urge people to wear face masks in public and conceded the slow uptake of coronavirus booster jabs is 'something that we really need to address'.
